Locks, force stops and changes made in AWS
Locks
Lock a machine before maintenance, such as an OS upgrade, so CostCapper doesn't start or stop it underneath you. Choose how long (or until you unlock it), and whether to end people's requests. People see the reason on their dashboard. You get a reminder by email after 24 hours.
Force stop
Stops a machine now and ends its requests and today's schedule window, for example when a machine is running up costs. The people whose requests ended are emailed the reason.
Changes made in AWS
- Someone starts a managed instance in the AWS console with no request: CostCapper flags it and stops it after 30 minutes unless someone requests it.
- Someone stops a machine in the console while people are using it: CostCapper flags it and leaves it stopped.
- A running machine you've just started managing, with no request or schedule, is also stopped after 30 minutes.
- AWS restarts a stopped RDS database by itself after seven days. CostCapper stops it again straight away.
